Despite working in the industry for twenty years, we are constantly looking at the next inspiring sculptor or ceramicist, so that we can continue to offer the finest quality work to our clients. We build relationships with and source artwork from all over the world and look to feature their work through our gallery and website. We also run regular exhibitions that showcase artists whose work is in high demand, popular or where it has inspired us.

Currently we have are featuring and promoting contemporary sculptures, ceramics and paintings from over 70 of the worlds’ leading artists. In particular, we have works from artists such as Helen Sinclair, Michael Thacker, Melanie Bourget, Rachel Ducker, Wendy Freestone, Simon Gudgeon, Paul Harvey, Jo Hatty, Tom Hiscocks and many more. We have periodic displays of works by Akiko Hirai and Jack Doherty with other guest ceramicists throughout the year.

We provide expert advice

Bils & Rye owner, Nick Bentley has over 20 years’ experience in the art sector. He is not only hugely passionate about sculpture, ceramics and paintings, but he is extremely knowledgeable about the artists he promotes and the techniques they use in order to achieve such amazing pieces. Nick loves to spend time talking to customers about what drives each artist, the inspiration that sits behind each sculpture or painting and answering any questions you might have.

Nick also has a passion for interior design and takes great care in thinking about how a piece of artwork might complement a room. Whether it is a sculpture, ceramic or painting, Nick wants it to be displayed proudly and become a key feature of your home.

Should I buy artwork online or buy from the Harrogate Gallery?

Whilst we would never discourage a customer from buying artwork online, there is nothing better than seeing and touching the sculpture, ceramic or painting first before buying. We do try our best to take really good photos of each item that we feature on our website, but in all honesty you can’t fully experience the beauty and attention to detail of each piece until you have seen it up close.

However, we understand that not only customers can make the trip to our contemporary gallery and may in fact have seen the artists work at an exhibition elsewhere. Our team in Harrogate will always do their best to talk you through each of our pieces to fully describe the piece and answer any further questions.  We also offer a home trial service, allowing clients to have works in their homes for a period. This service may have fees such as delivery and returns. All works are fully insured whilst with the clients. Typically, we deliver and collect, particularly for large scale pieces.

Can you help with interior design?

We are not accredited interior designers, however we do absolutely have a passion for interior design. Ultimately, many of the paintings and sculptures we sell become the main feature of a room, which has perhaps been refurbished or redesigned. We therefore work with a number of interior designers and their clients to guide them on what pieces best suit the style of their home or room. That could be looking at how a piece of artwork compliments the room design, layout and spacing, colours, fabrics, textures used, furniture styles and the rooms lighting.

With many years’ experience placing artwork in a wide variety of homes and room styles, Nick is an expert in recognizing what pieces will complement the room and equally what artwork will clash.

What does our artwork cost?

All of the pieces featured by our artists are original, bespoke creations, hand crafted with many hours of love and attention to detail. We partner and promote sculptures, paintings and ceramics created by the World’s most prestigious artists, which therefore carries a certain premium.

Our artwork starts from around £50 and can cost in excess of £20,000, for large commissioned pieces. Feel free to pop into our Harrogate Gallery and we will be happy to guide you on which pieces best suite your needs and budget.
