Carla Pownall

Carla trained as a production thrower in the 1970s and 80s at Birkenhead Park Potteries in Wirral, making stoneware tableware. After the pottery closed she spent her time bringing up her family and working part-time as a pottery teacher. For the last several years, having more free time, she is making her own stoneware and raku pots.

Raku is an ancient Japanese technique. Her work’s lustrous glaze is achieved on the black clay of Raku pottery technique, using smoke and flames to achieve stunning results.
