Charley began painting in oils as a child at around the age of nine, he was fascinated by the impressionists. Painting as a way to get in touch with himself and express some of the beauty and ugliness we embrace.
His work is just simply inspired by living and seeing moments that he can capture and express on canvas. Charley enjoys the challenge of portraits and the chaos and motion of landscapes and painting our environments. He is highly concerned to paint about contemporary issues in society such as migration and conflict, feeling that art is the perfect instrument to create peace where politics and capitalism fails us; art is here to give us the tools we need.
Charley is currently based between Colombia and the U.K and his work reflects that combination of South American texture and colour. In Colombia he is currently part of a combined studio project called Lugar a Dudas. Charley has featured in the mural biennale, collective exhibitions in Canada, Colombia, London and I currently have a solo show at the municipal library here in sunny tropical Colombia.
